People today use all sorts of devices to access the web and smartphones have become more popular than ever before. This is why many site owners today have to build a site for desktop users and another site for smartphone and tablet PC users as well. Their features are a little different, but we are not here to talk about how you should build sites.
One of the first things you should be concerned about is the results of such a website when it will be accessed via a smartphone. Users should always reach the page for which they follow the link and the site owners should make sure there are no problems with it. Since this is a major issue, Google has come up with a solution to make things better.
One of the common errors you can see is that the link to a page that is displayed in the results of the queries will lead to the home page of the site. Finding the target may be complicated for some users and this is what will ruin their experience on a site since they waste more time for a result that should have been there, but this is no longer the case.
You can use a smartphone to conduct a few queries
Users that are about to visit a page that is not the one displayed in the query results will get a notification about this so they will know what to expect. If they want to continue anyway, they will do so at their own expense. But even if users will know about this, what will site owners have to do? What are the actions they need to take to correct this?
First of all, Google will send a message to the site owners when they detect such a faulty redirect. This will inform you of the issues users have to face with your site on their smartphones and you will have to take the right actions from that point on. This is why you have to keep an eye out for any notifications you will receive in the process.
If you want to discover some of the issues on your own, you can use a smartphone to conduct a few queries so you can see which ones are not as they should be. Each link you will find has to be fixed and corrected so users visit the page they are interested in when they find you on Google. Here are a few techniques you can use to improve results.
The URLs you will find are the best starting points you can use and it will help you start repairing the configuration of the server. If one of the pages on your site does not have an equivalent for smartphone users also, you are better off showing them the desktop page rather than the home page. There are a few other options you can use when you want to improve the experience for your users and the best answers are on the blog of Google Webmaster Central.
