The December 2022 helpful content update came as a surprise to many SEO experts all around the world. Some of them say that such an algorithm improvement should have been expected, considering that the last one was incomplete and needed more changes. That’s true. In August, Google implemented another such update, but it had limited effects on the ranks compared with its purpose. First, let’s have some basic information about this update showcased.
The implementation process of this Google helpful content update started on 5 December 2022 and took approximately two weeks to roll out fully. As the second one of the series, it is vastly better than the one implemented in August 2022. The most significant difference is the area of Google Search it covers.

It was well known for many years that Google strives to improve its algorithms to benefit webmasters that put the well-being and satisfaction of their visitors above anything else. We also knew there were still many methods to get top ranks in SERPs without entirely focusing on this goal, but this Google helpful content update strives to change that.
Based on some reorganization and name-changing, Google now refers to the methods used to determine ranks as systems. The helpful content system gained much more influence through this update. It’s critical not just for webmasters but for all SEO professionals to pay more attention to the nature of their content and its potential to be helpful.
It became painfully clear for some webmasters that Google takes its goals seriously and won’t allow any interference with them anymore. As a result, any methods used to create content to get ranks without prioritizing the satisfaction of its intended audience are targeted and will be even less beneficial in the future.

The first helpful content update, implemented in August, had limited effects and only targeted the English Search. On the other hand, its big brother, the one implemented in the last month of 2022, did go all the way. The helpful content system now fully covers Google Search, regardless of the language.
The effects of this Google helpful content update started on the second day of the implementation process. The fluctuations in the search were evident, and penalties, as well as rewards, began to rain over websites. Remember that this update affects the site overall, so any reward or punishment will massively affect the ranks for all the keywords on your site.
Overall, this update is excellent news for professional SEO experts and webmasters who always focused on the best methods, fully respected Google’s guidelines, and strived to compete even with sites that were not as fair.
The goal of the helpful content system is clear, a ranking website based on how much help they provide to visitors. You only need to ensure that your site helps every visitor as much as possible. You will get better ranks if you introduce much better content than your competition can provide.
What can you do if this helpful content update punishes your website? It would be best to determine why your site was penalized and make the necessary changes. The action that must be taken depends on the results of an audit that must be performed to find out the cause.
In both cases, your best action is to look for a professional SEO agency like GAMIT and let them take care of everything.
