Google is the most important name in the search engine world and it is the first option people turn to when they want to find something over the web. This happens due to the quality of the results any average user will get, the lack of dazzling ads on the front page, and how easy it is to use as well, but there are some things you have to keep in mind.
In order to improve the quality of the search engine results, the team at Google is making a constant effort for it. All the site owners that want to achieve success over the web should focus on the things they can do in order to improve their ranks in the search engine results, but there are a few things they can do that will lead to penalties from Google.
The penalties you incur from this search engine can be manual or algorithmic
The first ones are going to affect your activity due to the illegal actions the team has tracked down, but you will be notified in Google Webmaster Tools about it. The algorithmic penalties can target many different aspects of the site, from page content to used keywords.
There are many things you can do in order to activate a spam filter from Google and this can have a serious impact on your rankings. If you do not know what you have done wrong and if you want to get an idea about the things that will draw this sort of negative attention on the site, this is where you will find a few examples of what you may face.
One of the first things you can add to the list is the name of your site. If you have registered a domain that has one or more trademarked words in its content that will help you profit from scrapped content, you will get a penalty. If you use the misspelled version of a rival, brand, or popular site so you can gain or redirect traffic, you will be penalized.
On-site behavior is also important. The cookies you will place on computers have to be used with care if you do not want to draw any unwanted attention. The keywords you use do not have to be stuffed in the irrelevant text just so you can be more popular with search engines and you should use more content and fewer navigational constructs.
There are many other black hat ways in order to improve your rank with Google and other search engines, but they will deliver results that will not last for a long time. If you want to be sure you will avoid most of the things that can activate a spam filter with a negative impact on your web presence, you have to find as many as you can. One of the lists you can check out over the web that will help you with it can be found on the site of Search Engine Watch.
