The first broad core update of 2023 is here. There’s no surprise. After so many years, everyone in the industry has already adapted to these regular changes. It will be a bigger surprise if there is no such update anymore.
Anyways, it seems that Google took its time to make the changes implemented through this core update. The impact seen from the first day was incredible. The volatility of the SERPs registered by all online tools was massive and surprising for a regular core update.

As always, Google didn’t give any details about the core update. Luckily, professionals can infer some things based on their impact on the search results. It seems to be an upgrade for the content-related parts of the algorithm that compare the quality of the websites and decide the ranks.
Even though it’s not a penalty update, the changes affect websites that use gray or black hat SEO methods. It is concluded that some upgrades made included detecting such methods and improving the algorithms by removing loopholes.
Lastly, as it is common for broad core updates, the target is vast. It covered all the SERPs, not limiting itself to just some parts or industries. For this reason, you also need to pay attention to such changes and understand how your website was affected.

When the core update was first implemented on March 15, 2023, the volatility of the SERPs was massive within the first 24 hours. The changes were fast and comprehensive, so many websites were affected. The situation stabilized in the next few days, and the volatility normalized.
A little surprise appeared on March 23 and 24 when the weather in the search results got hot again. The volatility rose, but not at the same level as on the first implementation day. It seemed that some of the changes made in these two days influenced the features of the algorithm for either content quality or black hat detection.
The last broad core update was implemented in September 2022, and its effects were lackluster. For this reason, the overall hard impact on the first day surprised many professionals and made everyone a little jumpy. Luckily, the situation calmed down, and it seems that it is only a regular core update like the ones we are used to.
Did you check your website’s ranks recently? What are the effects of this update? It’s possible that your content got you some better search results positions, or, on the contrary, you may have lost some of them. You must fully understand the results of such updates on your SEO because they can reveal much information to you.
For example, if your site is regularly impacted negatively by core updates, it is possible that the SEO strategies you use are not effective. Some gray or even black hat methods could cause this damage. In such situations, you must check the content used in your SEO strategy and ensure it follows Google’s guidelines.
If you detect the problem that causes the loss in search result ranks, you must look for professionals to help you solve it. It would be best to find a reliable agency like GAMIT, which provides professional SEO services tailored to your needs and always in line with the latest Google SEO trends.
